RR vs. SRH Match Report: Hyderabad Won By 7 wickets

Rajasthan Royals let a golden opportunity slip away as they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27th Sept and let SRH win by seven wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After this loss, RR finds themselves log jammed with 8 points from 10 games, much like three other teams who now have the chance to climb up the IPL points table.

The powerplay of this match was like a dream for SRH, who showcased a pretty phenomenal performance in this match after not seeing the green so far in the season. They kept themselves in the IPL 2021 alive with a transformed side that led to a fantastic win by seven wickets against the Rajasthan Royals.

A tremendous bowling performance was complemented by a batting charge led by Jason Roy, who scored 60 off 42. The match was finished with a thunder where Kane Williamson knocked off 51* off 41. Even though Rajasthan Royals put up a decent chasing score of 164 for five after choosing to bat, Samson striking 82 off 57 could not bring the wins to the team.

While chasing the score of 165 set by Royals, SRH was given a strong start by Jason Roy and Wriddhiman Saha, who managed to rope in 57 in just five overs. This lead gave the team a much-needed lead at the beginning of the game.

However, introducing the left-arm spin of Mahipal Lomror in the last over of the PowerPlay paid off when his first ball sneaked under the bat of Saha, and wicket-keeper Samson got the opportunity to dislodge the stumps dismissing Saha’s unstoppable play.

But Williamson’s well-thought and managed play made the Royals wait for another wicket in the match. The opener perished after giving a long-awaited catch to Samson behind the stumps off Chetan Sakariya.

Priyam Garg followed him for a duck but Abhishek Sharma brought a perfect supporting role.

Earlier, RR, who won the toss and decided to bat first, made two changes as Tyagi and Rawat replaced Jaydev Unadkat and Shivam Dube.

To their despair, the team lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early even though he showcased a good performance. Skipper Sanju Samson, as always, brought a good play and smashed his first ball for six while Buttler sliced a delivery for four against Khaleel Ahmed. The royals were 42/1 at the end of the powerplay, which was a decent start, but they could not restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad with their ineffective bowling.

Samson and Butler brought their 50-run partnership in the 8th over after the RR skipper added another four. Manish Pandey dropped a much-awaited catch in the outfield in the 10th over as RR moved to 77/1 at the halfway of their innings.

As for the Royals, it seems as if they get served with different issues with every other match. They could not win the last match due to their batting struggle, and they lost this match against SRH due to a poor display of the ball.

Players talk at the RR vs SRH Match

Jason Roy (Player of the Match)

β€œIt makes me extremely happy. Really grateful for the opportunity from the Sunrisers. I’ve been waiting patiently and training hard. I had to access different areas. It wasn’t as free-flowing especially for the first 20-30 balls but I wanted to get the team as close as possible. He (Saha) was instrumental in that partnership and allowed me to relax a little bit. He got off to an incredible start and I am really happy with that partnership. We’ve got to keep our feet very grounded. We’ve had a very tough tournament but to come out with a smile on our faces and perform like that is very pleasing. We have to remain grounded though.”

Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain)

β€œIt’s a good feeling. We can look at the performance and say it was much improved. Some clarity in the performance and we can say that it was much better. Hopefully, we can improve on that and some of these young players cash in on their opportunities in the coming games. A couple of periods of play were quite significant – Sanju batted outstandingly well but we closed it out quite well and it gave us a chance. And then we got a great start but once they took a wicket and the ball stopped on the surface it wasn’t easy. We had to weather those storms and we did that really well. He (Roy) brings a lot of energy to any team he plays. He was sitting on the sidelines and was raring to go. He’s a fantastic player and it was a great performance from him. We’ve got a couple of days off between games so it’s important we recover.”

Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals Captain) β€œI think it was a decent score. The wicket was a bit sticky and they were bowling well according to the conditions. We could have got 10 or 20 runs more. The start which we got on this sticky wicket, we should have kept going. I wanted to go on after the Powerplay but we lost one or two quick wickets which made me hold back. They bowled really well. We definitely have to work a lot on both our batting and bowling. We need to work on our execution and we need to be on top of our mark each delivery. The margin for error is very small and we need to be on the money.”

The action of the IPL will continue on 28th September with a doubleheader where Delhi Capitals will take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians will take on Punjab Kings.
